NATUREWISE - SOCIAL MISSION
Connecting People - Ending Isolation
At NatureWise we care deeply about the natural environment and being able to help people become more connected to it. We believe that through these connections, we are able to experience our own natural wisdom, leading to a more positive and fulfilling way of life. That is why NatureWise aims to address a very important social issue which affects not only our ability to connect with the world in a more meaningful way but also with ourselves and others.
Social isolation and loneliness is expected to affect around 2 million people over the age of 50 by 2025 (an expected rise of 49% in 10 years) whilst around 9 million adults around the UK report that they are often or always lonely (figures from a recent study by the British Red Cross and The Co-Op). The impact of loneliness can be devastating for people’s health:
Loneliness, living alone and poor social connections are as bad for your health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day and is worse for you than obesity. (Holt-Lunstad, 2010)
Lonely people are more likely to suffer from dementia, heart disease and depression. (Valtorta 2016), James 2011) and (Cacioppo, 2006)
Loneliness is likely to increase your risk of death by 29% (Holt-Lunstad, 2015)
That is why, at NatureWise, we offer free, monthly, Nature Connection meet ups to help people on low incomes to access the opportunity to grow their connections through shared experiences in the natural environment. Press the button below to find out more about eligibility for this service.
